It occurred to me this morning, while working on a presentation on this subject that there is a lot of similarity between managing a business start-up and building sound church missions ministries.
Here’s some early thoughts:
Business Model: original idea for goods or services; capitalization; product development and production; financial management; marketing; personnel/human resources; investor/shareholder relations
Church Missions Model: we have the original idea for “goods” and services given to us; we get capitalization through prayer (and people); equipping and training of individuals; financial management; congregational education & vision casting; screening and shepherding of participants; communications & annual missions conference
Granted, we don’t intend to make church ministry a “business”. Yet, there are enough parallels that we would be wise to learn how such observations could help us do a better job at the work God has given us to do in the church.
